Terms of Service
Effective October 13, 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Xerocracy LLC, a Michigan limited liability company that runs Xerocracy (xerocracy.co). "We," "us," and "our" mean Xerocracy LLC. "Xerocracy" means xerocracy.co, Xerocracy accounts, and any related pages or services we run for it. "You" means the person using Xerocracy, and, if you're using it for a band or other group, that group too.
By using Xerocracy, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use Xerocracy.
The short version
- Anyone can view public pages. Accounts are for artists, by invitation, and you must be 18 or older.
- Keep your sign-in secure. You're responsible for what happens in your account.
- Only manage profiles you have the right to manage.
- Xerocracy hosts what artists put on their profiles. When you make a profile public, what's on it is yours, and you're responsible for it.
- Don't misuse the site or the people on it.
- We only change claimed profiles when their managers ask, but we may hide or remove what's on them.
- Xerocracy is new and still changing. We provide it as it is.
- Michigan law applies.
The full terms follow.
Who can use Xerocracy
Anyone can view public pages. To create an account, you need to:
- be 18 or older,
- have an invitation from us, and
- be a member of the act you manage, or be authorized to represent it.
Your account
Give us accurate information, and keep it up to date. Keep your sign-in secure, and don't share your account. If you think someone else has used it, tell us right away. You're responsible for what happens in your account.
Artist profiles
We draft profiles from public information. Our Privacy Policy explains how. During our invitation-only beta, we create a profile only for an artist who has agreed to it, and the artist reviews it before it goes public.
We write drafts with automated and AI tools, so they may contain mistakes. Check everything before you make a profile public.
Unclaimed and claimed profiles. A profile no one has claimed yet is an unclaimed profile, and what's on it is our draft. Once an artist claims a profile, the people who manage it decide what's on it.
Claiming a profile. Claiming a profile lets you review and change what's on it. When you claim a profile, you're confirming that you have the right to manage it. If more than one person claims to represent an act, we'll decide based on what we can verify. We may pause changes until it's resolved.
Making a profile public. When you make a profile public, you're confirming that you've reviewed it. You adopt everything on it as your own content, including anything we drafted. From then on, it's covered by "Content you add" below.
Profile addresses. Each profile has an address like xerocracy.co/yourband. We may change or reclaim an address that impersonates someone, infringes someone's rights, or is misleading.
Our role. Xerocracy is a platform, not an editor. It hosts content that artists add and adopt. We don't change what's on a claimed profile, except to hide or remove it, or when the people who manage it ask us to. We may hide or remove content, or take a profile down, at our discretion and in good faith. This includes when someone credibly asks us to. We aren't required to monitor profiles.
Reporting or removing something. Anyone can report something wrong on a profile, or ask us to remove it, by emailing webmaster@xerocracy.co, as described in our Privacy Policy.
Publications. Facts on a profile, like show dates and links, may also appear in publications we run, such as Bored Lansing.
Content you add
Content you add to a profile, like a bio, links, show dates, or photos, stays yours. To run Xerocracy, we need your permission to use it.
When you add content, you give Xerocracy LLC a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, display, adapt, and distribute it. That license lets us:
- show it on your profile and elsewhere on Xerocracy,
- use it to check and improve other information about you, including with automated and AI tools,
- use it in publications we run, like Bored Lansing, and to promote your profile, and
- let the companies that help us run Xerocracy process it for these purposes.
When a publication we run uses your content, that publication is responsible for how it presents it. Bored Lansing has its own terms: boredlansing.com/terms.
You can remove your content from Xerocracy at any time, and we'll stop showing it there. Copies may remain in backups for a while. The license continues for anything already published using your content, including pieces in our publications, and we don't have to change those.
You're responsible for the content you add, and for everything on a profile you've made public. When you add content, you're confirming that you have the right to share it and that it doesn't break the law or infringe anyone's rights. For example, only add photos you took or have permission to use, and credit the photographer when you can.
Using Xerocracy respectfully
Please don't:
- pretend to be another person or act,
- post false information about others,
- harass, threaten, or abuse anyone,
- break the law or help someone else break it,
- access other people's accounts or data,
- scrape or bulk-copy the site,
- probe, test, or disrupt the site's security or operation,
- use Xerocracy to send spam, or
- get around invitations, limits, or other restrictions we've put in place.
What belongs to us
The Xerocracy name, logo, designs, code, and the text we write for the site are ours, or belong to the people we license them from. You can share links to public pages and screenshots of them.
What belongs to you, like your band's name, music, and photos, stays yours.
Other services
Xerocracy links to other services, like Instagram or Spotify. We don't control them, and their own terms apply when you use them.
Changes to Xerocracy
Xerocracy is early and still changing. Features may change, pause, or end. Accounts are free right now. If we add paid features, like Tip Us, they'll come with additional terms. You'll see those terms before you use the feature.
Closing an account
You can stop using Xerocracy at any time. To close your account, email us.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts others at risk. We'll usually tell you first, unless something needs urgent action.
Disclaimers
We provide Xerocracy as is and as available, without warranties of any kind. This includes warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Profiles we draft come partly from public sources and automated tools, so they may be incomplete or wrong. Content on a claimed profile comes from the people who manage it, and we don't verify it. We don't promise the site will always be available or error-free.
Limits on our liability
To the extent the law allows, Xerocracy LLC isn't liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages. This includes lost profits, revenue, or data. Our total liability for any claim related to Xerocracy is limited to $50, or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, whichever is greater.
Some places don't allow these limits. If that applies to you, these limits apply only as far as the law allows.
If someone makes a claim because of you
If someone makes a legal claim against us because you broke these terms, because of content you added to Xerocracy or a profile you made public, or because you violated the law or someone else's rights, you agree to cover our resulting costs and losses. This includes reasonable legal fees, damages, and settlements. This doesn't apply to claims caused by what's on an unclaimed profile, by changes we make to a profile, or by our own mistakes. Anything we drafted that you adopted by making a profile public counts as content you added. We'll tell you promptly if a claim comes up, and we may choose to handle the defense ourselves. You won't settle a claim on our behalf without our consent.
Resolving disagreements
If you have a dispute with us about Xerocracy or these terms, contact us first at webmaster@xerocracy.co. Tell us who you are, what the problem is, and what you'd like us to do. We'll try to resolve it informally within 30 days of receiving your message. We'll do the same for you: before we take legal action against you, we'll contact you and try to work it out. We can agree in writing to extend this period.
Neither of us will start a lawsuit until those 30 days have passed, and any legal deadlines are paused while we're trying to resolve it. Either of us can still go to small claims court, or ask a court for urgent relief, like stopping misuse of content or the site, at any time.
If we can't resolve it, Michigan law applies, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any lawsuit will be brought in the state courts in Ingham County, Michigan, or the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan, and we both agree to those courts.
To report or remove something on a profile, you don't need this process. Email us as described under Artist profiles; that's separate and faster.
Changes to these terms
We'll post any changes here with a new effective date. If a change is significant, we'll tell account holders by email or on their dashboard before it takes effect. If you keep using Xerocracy after a change, you're agreeing to the new terms.
The fine print
These terms, our Privacy Policy, and any additional terms for features you use are the whole agreement between us about Xerocracy. If a part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a term right away, we haven't given up the right to enforce it later. You can't transfer your account or these terms to someone else. We may transfer them if Xerocracy LLC is sold or merged. If these terms end, the parts meant to continue still apply. These include the license for content already published, the disclaimers, the limits on our liability, claims made because of you, and how we resolve disagreements.
